ALTIUS Communications announced two new vendor partnerships during the first quarter of 2006: GigaBeam and fSona. Both reseller agreements add unique technologies and expanded capabilities to the ALTIUS product line. ISP customers, for example, will have new, exciting options from ALTIUS for "out of band" back haul. The new offerings will also allow ALTIUS to penetrate the government and enterprise markets more effectively. Some details for each company and its focus follow below.
GigiBeam manufactures equipment that operates in the newly approved 71-76 GHz, 81-86 GHz, and 92-95 GHz frequency bands (13,000 MHz)—the only bands that enable carrier-grade multi-gigabit-per-second communications for the entire last mile. The physics associated with high-speed wireless communications require a large amount of spectrum with the lowest potential for atmospheric resistance (particularly in terrestrial environments). These characteristics are uniquely provided by the spectrum bands pioneered for commercial use by GigaBeam's founders. GigaBeam radios will provide reliable point-to-point two-way communications at up to 2.7 gigabits per second with 99.999% weather availability for about a mile or more. Future systems will enable last-mile communications at 10 gigabits per second or OC-192.
fSONA manufactures high-quality, high-performance, free space optical wireless communications equipment. Designed to provide simple, easy-to-integrate, and cost-effective solutions for last mile access, LAN bridging and PCS/Cellular backhaul applications, the SONAbeam™ product family offers network operators solutions to their connectivity problems and bridges the last mile gap with simplicity and high performance. Utilizing a flexible point-to-point architecture and protocol-independent design, SONAbeam™ systems extend legacy architecture investments and create vast new connectivity and revenue opportunities.
